National Chrysanthemum Show
This weekend in Hawera at the Hawera Memorial Hall, Albion Street is the National Chrysanthemum Show. Open to the public 1:30 to 5 on Saturday and 10 till 4 on Sunday. Come and see an amazing range of these flowers that have been grown for over 2000 years. As well we have food and plants for sale and a range of craft stalls. Admission is only $3 and children are free.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
