Duck shooting at the internationally significant Waituna Lagoon comes with potential health risks to both the shooters and their dogs this year.

Environment Southland is warning people to be aware of the toxic algae that has been found at the lagoon and recommend not eating ducks shot there.

Now, for the first time the duo are taking their roadshow south to give talks in Milton, Taieri Mouth, Gore, Invercargill, Rakiura/Stewart Island and Riverton.

It will focus on things to consider before choosing to live in a retirement village and provide practical tips before you sign up to live in a retirement village.

Speakers from the Commission, Retirement Village Association and the legal profession (if available), will discuss types of retirement village structure, costs, and operations. The seminar will also explain some important resident's rights and where you can find out more information.

It's 90 minutes long and includes plenty of dedicated question and answer time throughout the event.

Places are limited and registering attendance is essential.
