SPCA Pet of the Day: Meet Eddie and Valarie

Nicholas Boyack Reporter from Community News

This week we feature two guinea pigs.

"We were bought to SPCA because our family could no longer care for us. We are now looking for a home together. Eddie and Valerie are sweet guinea pigs who love their food.
We are very sweet to watch, and are getting better at being handled, but we really don't like it, like most guinea pigs. We will need a large grassy area with a weatherproof hutch for day time. At night, we will need to be inside with you as part of your family so will need an area inside your home. It will need to be large enough for us to fit comfortably for the night, or for days when the weather is just too awful to be outside in. If that sounds like your set-up, please get in touch with our Small Animal Team for an appointment."

CAMEO COMMUNITY HUB?

Sue from Waikanae

TELL US WHAT YOU WANT IN A COMMUNITY HUB IN WAIKANAE!

Terisa Ngobi, Sophie Handford and I had such a good discussion this week about Waikanae and its needs, and I would love to hear your views too -
While the replacement Waikanae Library is being redesigned, we have probably three years during which we do not have a community hub in the heart of Waikanae that you all can feel welcome in, apart from the Cameo rooms in Mahara Place โ€“
They are a unique space in the town centre, ideal for smaller community groups to meet; for new groups to start up; for people to learn new things (currently card games and music but we are looking at all sorts of things) and โ€“ always โ€“ for people to pop in when they are passing or waiting for a train or bus and just want to put their feet up.
So tell us what you would like to see in a community hub โ€“ an internet connection so that we can have computers available for people to use or learn to use in this digitally demanding world?
Our JPs come every Tuesday morning, but would you also like to see a Citizens Advice volunteer available once a week? Age Concern?

Poll: Do you support the rules to build new homes?

Nicholas Boyack Reporter from Community News

Tens of thousands of new homes could be possible in Wellington after a major bipartisan housing announcement from Labour and National.
A new bill supported by both major parties strips red tape from the building process in an effort to accelerate medium-density housing.
The rule change will allow people to build up to three homes of three storeys on most sites in Wellington without any need for resource consent from August 2022.
Tell us what you think and if you do not want your comments used put NFP.
