The life and times Upper Hutt's 'unofficial mayor' David Painter

Reporter Community News

Dave Painter, better known as “Paints”, was often labelled Upper Hutt’s ‘’unofficial mayor’’ due to the role he played in the community.
At his funeral, Painter was described as a mentor, listener, supporter and good friend to many, who “absolutely stood up for what he believed in and encouraged others to do the same.”
Well known in Upper Hutt due to his links to cricket and rugby, he had also been a high profile police dog handler.
In 1997, Painter was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal for services to the public.
After retiring he took up sports massage and teams he worked with included the All Blacks, Hurricanes and Wellington Lions.
He was a life member of the Upper Hutt Rams.

Poll: Would you participate in local initiatives aimed at stopping plastic from reaching our oceans?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Volunteers will be scouring the foreshore, riverbanks, and islands for rubbish on Saturday the 13th as part of the Clean Up the Hutt event.

This initiative helps stop plastic from reaching our oceans and makes our waterways cleaner and safer for everyone.

We want to know: Should this be rolled out across all coastal cities in Aotearoa? And more importantly… would you get involved? 💚

Want the details? The Post has you covered.
