There’s also new growth at Birchville, Maoribank Corner and Poets Park, though at lower levels. It’s still safe to use those parts of the river, but keep an eye out and avoid any areas where you see toxic algae.
They’re not currently concerned about toxic algae elsewhere in the region.

To all fishing enthusiastics, please be aware of not leaving fishing gear laying around. This afternoon, I ended up with fishing hooks on my foot (ouch!). Below, picture of the offending material.
The main thing about Birchville is the beautiful native bush and the endless fluttering of Tui, Kereru and many other species. I can look out three sides of my house and admire Mother Nature at work. It helps to make my life enjoyable. What more could I ask for?
