I went to our holiday home in Turangi to mow my lawns and other tasks, the house is clearly alarmed (on the outside doors , windows), when I entered the house the alarm did not activate. on further investigation I found the outside master switch in the meter board had been turned OFF, the small freezer has limited food inside and had to be dumped due to no power to the fridge. The meter board does not turn OFF by itself!!!!
I spoke to the Turangi Police (and this is where it becomes of concern,) these thieves wait until the security alarm battery goes "dead", this may take a few days, then they make their move to enter the property knowingly the alarm system battery will not function. To try and stop this happening again, I purchased a hasp and staple and padlock the attached the hardware to the meter board door in the hope these mongrels will not try again!!!!!. I do not know how to send this post to the Turangi and surrounding areas, hope someone can help.

One of our reporters is working on an article about first home owners in Taupo choosing to build rather than buy. Do you know, or are, someone who has taken up this option? We would love to hear from you.

Keep an eye out for all the runners and walkers taking on the Great Lake Relay from tonight through to tomorrow afternoon. There aren’t any road closures but speed restrictions will be in place on the roads around the lake.
