Mauao track closures

Communications from Tauranga City Council

UPDATE 17/11, 4.24pm:

During scheduled maintenance on Mauao today our team found a large boulder/rock that needs to be remove for safety reasons.

The Mauao base track and Oruahine track will remain closed tonight instead of opening at 4pm, as planned, to allow work to continue this evening.

The 4X4 and Waikorire tracks to the summit will remain open.

We are aiming to get all tracks open again by around 6.30am tomorrow morning. Thank you for your patience.

Heads up! We’re doing some maintenance work on Mauao next week. To ensure your safety there will be some closures in place.

- The Mauao base track and Oruahine track will be closed on Tuesday, 17 November from 7am to 4pm. The 4X4 and Waikorire tracks to the summit will remain open. Barriers and security will be in place at all closure points.

Please also note on Monday, 16 November a Stop/Go will be in place along the base track. A person based at either side of the Stop/Go will allow walkers/runners through when it is safe.

Shame on You!

Lisa from Otumoetai

This is what greeted workers at Brookfield Sallies yesterday morning. All of it looks like it should have gone straight to the tip, which is what the Sallies will now have to pay to do. Surely whoever does this has no conscience. The Sallies do an amazing job of helping people in times of need and they don't need to be spending any money they receive on doing your dirty work, especially at this time of year.
