Last chance to have your say on the draft Naming Policy
Submissions on the draft naming policy close on Wednesday 11 December. Among other changes we’re proposing to add a policy purpose to encourage Māori names for streets, reserves, community facilities and public places in Tauranga. We’re not proposing to change all names overnight but over time we hope to better reflect our city’s Māori history and mana whenua connections to Tauranga in the way we name public places. This is what greeted workers at Brookfield Sallies yesterday morning. All of it looks like it should have gone straight to the tip, which is what the Sallies will now have to pay to do. Surely whoever does this has no conscience. The Sallies do an amazing job of helping people in times of need and they don't need to be spending any money they receive on doing your dirty work, especially at this time of year.
