The team of young footballers have been crowned the best in their grade in the South Island after a hard-fought battle in Queenstown.
They took out their grade's competition at the South Island Tournament during the October school holidays.

Coached by Grant Woolhouse and Wayne Lapslie, the squad of 16 played seven games with only one loss, a closely contested 0-1 against Nomads during pool play.

The grand final between Waimak and Nomads was a closely contested match. Neither team had managed to hit the back of the net by full time, with the score remaining 0-0, but penalty shootouts resulted in Waimak coming out with the win at 4-1.

Congratulations to the team and coaches whose hard work and training during the year brought home the winners' cup and the gold medals.

Terra and the family's second cat, Archer, were in the garden when a man with two dogs walked by. Both dogs ran on to the property, which is fenced but does not have a gate, and attacked Terra.

Waimakariri District Council regulation manager Nick Harrison says the man walking the dogs was wearing a hooded top and was unidentifiable from the security camera footage.

He appealed for anyone with information about the attack to call the council on 0800 965 468.
