Are you concerned about crime in your area?

The Team from Neighbourhood Support Rotorua

Neighbours need to talk to neighbours face to face so that you know who lives in your neighbourhood and who may be visiting and up to mischief. If something criminal or suspicious is seen, let the Police know immediately. Don't complain that the Police do nothing, often they are not informed.

To get to know your neighbours face to face establish a Neighbourhood Support Group to:

· Take responsibility for your own safety

· Be prepared for a civil defence emergency

· Encourage neighbours to talk to each other

· Minimises burglaries and car crime

· Share information to reduce the risk/fear of crime

· Be advised of crimes close to your area

· Support victims of crime

· Know when and how to contact Police

Neighbourhood Support Rotorua is based at Rotorua Police Station so is able to work with Police in identifying areas where crime is occurring. Groups in those areas are informed of crime as soon as information is passed to the Neighbourhood Support Rotorua office.

In the time of an emergency Civil Defence Rotorua calls on Neighbourhood Support Rotorua to be a communication channel to areas where Groups are established, as happened in the 29 April floods in Ngongotaha.

Sound out your neighbours - Contact the office to help set up a Group
