Rates- who thinks it is right for Porirua homeowners to pay more rates? To subside PCC for everyone else?

Pearl from Titahi Bay

I am very concerned about this amazingly unreal price hike the PCC is talking about implementing! We already have the highest rates. We had a significant rise last year, and now saying 5 percent each year??? For three years?.. Is this even legal?
So many are struggling to pay our huge rates as they already are. Are PCC trying to get rid of people from Porirua who are in the lower and retired income brackets, and make them move somewhere else?
Why can't the PCC live within the budget they have, (like we have too), and stop spending so much on items that are not essential. Can we see the PCC budget please and its spending?
All of the new building that's been and is, taking place- the PCC is getting a lot more household rates from these as well.
Business and commercial rates- what do these people pay compared to home owners? I have been told their rates are way lower than home owners-is this correct?

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
