Be prepared for upcoming roadworks
A busy season of road resurfacing and drainage improvements is underway with an extensive programme of works until mid-February.
Drivers will need to plan ahead, as this work will require lane closures, road closures and speed restrictions at times. When the motorway is closed there will be detours in place via State Highway 59 and State Highway 58.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
