The burglary at Central Motors happened just before 4am on August 14.

Business owner Mark Browne said a stolen Nissan Safari was used to ram a high wooden fence to get into the property, which was protected from the front by a steel pipe security gate.

TCDC have produced a Coastal Management Strategy engagement document. This sets out a range of coastal issues including coastal hazards for discussion. A series of public meetings will be held around the Peninsula in October.

This is all highly commendable but there is no cause for further delay in mapping coastal flooding hazard areas. The Govt required this work be done in 2010. Identify the hazards– then talk to the public. This is what most other coastal Councils are doing.

Steve Joynes' original vision for his family's holiday home was a simple one: "I wanted something really cheap and small – like a hut," says the Hamilton-based builder, before cracking up with laughter. Needless to say, things didn't quite work out that way. But the luxurious retreat he's built, surrounded by native bush in the Coromandel, does evoke the spirit of a particularly sleek Department of Conservation hut.
