Climate Change

Brian from Papakura

I was reading a message from someone on you tube who, while hugging trees, was stating that cars destroy trees. Nope.
Trees and other plants feed on CO2. CO2 does not kill plant life. Some green houses even boost their CO2 levels to boost plant growth. I did read somewhere that the present level of CO2 is barely enough for trees to survive, they are literally starving.
By volume, dry air contains 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. The remaining gases are often referred to as trace gases, among which are the greenhouse gases, principally carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Besides argon, other noble gases, neon, helium, krypton, and xenon are also present.
Trees would love higher levels of CO2.
The problem for us humans is this. Higher CO2 levels plus other green house gases causes the planet to warm slightly. This causes ice lying on the land masses to melt, resulting in higher sea levels. This in turn will cause flooding of all low lying land globally. Did you know that if all the ice melted the seas could rise about 300 feet. Imagine the sea level being 30 stories higher than today. Scary eh. Guess what we use those low lying areas for? Food production, cities, mining, oil and gas production, factories, etc. The higher temperatures also creates different and generally more violent weather patterns. The planet doesn't care if CO2 is a little higher, or there is more rain falling. Forests will become more lush, as they were millions of years ago when CO2 levels were much higher, and even the Sahara desert was lush with growth. Nope, the planet is fine, humans are in trouble. There will be a lot less land for us to live on, less land to produce our food. Energy problems. This will make for wars for scare resources. The Earth has survived through cataclysmic events before in it's history. It will still be around, we may not.
