On Saturday 23rd March the Franklin Chess Club (contact details are below) travelled to the Thames Chess Club to play an Interclub match. The event was accompanied by a morning tea of biscuits, chocolate eggs, tea and coffee.The Match was officially won by the Franklin team by 6-4 but it was a close run thing it was 3 games each after 6 games!.However the Games were played in tremendous spirit and the day was a Very Enjoyable one for all involved.Interclub matches between the two Clubs will be run twice a year, with the next Interclub Match scheduled for November this year.
For those interested in the Franklin Chess Club, the Club meets monthly on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm at the Pukekohe Library upstairs in the Leslie Comrie room. Other churches throughout our country have also been invited to ring their bells as we remember the events that shocked our country.
Following careful discussion with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet who are representing those Government agencies working with the Christchurch Muslim community, 3pm was chosen for this memorial
This is to occur between the broadcast Call to Prayer starting at 1.30 pm follo2 minutes silence at 1.32 and funerals of victims which are to take place at 4.00 pm tomorrow.
If there are members of the Muslim community or anyone else who would like to join us for the bell ringing you would be most welcome.
This would also be a good time to come in and light a memorial candle.
The church will be open all day for candle lighting.
