Has your power company behaved in an unfair manner?

Leeann from Roslyn - Terrace End

Hi.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced problems with their power company, which they feel was unfair to them?

I was on a fixed term (2 year) Electricity contact. My Power supplier decided upon my contract expiring, that they would change the expiry date from beginning of February 2025 to End April 2025. This was done without notifying me. They did not provide a 30 day notice that they wished to vary my contract term. I feel this is unfair and an abuse of power, as I believed my contract lasted for longer than it actually did, and this delayed me moving to another supplier or even knowing what offers were available back in Jan/early Feb.

My power company has indicated they did this to other people as well, and I wonder if these people are now paying higher prices than they would have, due to being pushed over the 01.04.2025 power price increase date.

I have spoken with the Commerce Commission and they have indicated this may be classed as unfair conduct and currently have a complaint with the Utility Disputes.

Does anyone else think they deserve to be notified of major changes to their contract (besides price changes), such as extending the contract period, and have a right to be notified and decline the extension and move to another supplier?
