Plant/tree clippings needed!

Tracie from Roslyn - Terrace End

Kia ora neighbours 👋

I am a wildlife rehabilitation technician at Wildbase Recovery in the esplanade.

At the centre we currently are hand raising tui chicks and have juvenile kereru who are learning how to bird. A major factor of their success is the ability to forage and recognise natural sources of food.
We aim to be able to release them back to the wild soon whilst food is abundant but we need to confirm they can forage nectar and berries etc on their own

We are in need of unsprayed clippings of flowering and fruiting trees for tui and kereru. Native is ideal, however there are exotic species that are safe.

Tui- These can be pohutukawa, rata, bottlebrush, hebe, flax flowers etc.
Kereru- fruiting trees such as kawakawa, karaka, caprosma, tree Lucerne, loquats, etc

If anyone has clippings available or can put me in contact with someone who may be trimming some of these trees please give me a yell😊

To arrange collection/ drop off or, if you can help in any way please send me a message or email t.poole@massey.ac.nz

Thanks in advance and come on down to the centre and say hi!
