Razor blades in the walls....

Does anyone remember them from their childhood? These strange slots allowed you to rid yourself of an old razor and never think of it again...but it also meant, years down the track, that someone renovating would be in for a nasty, rusty surprise.
I'm certain I've seen something like this here in Aotearoa-NZ, but can't for the life of me recall where. It was in the back of the medicine cupboard. Let us know if you've seen, had - or have - one in your home.

Rural artist Graham Christensen will be onsite at the Yellow Church Gallery in Mangaweka over Wellington Anniversary weekend. From 11am – 4pm daily Graham will be demonstrating his painting technique and visitors will have the opportunity to discuss his work and ask questions.

Graham’s exhibition Rural Recollections opened in March 2020 at the the Yellow Church Gallery but unfortunately closed just a week later due to Covid19.
Rural Recollections has since re-opened as 'Rural Recollections Re-visited' and includes new works completed over lockdown.

Yellow Church Gallery, SH 1, Mangaweka. The gallery will be open 11am – 4pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Admission is free.

About Graham
Graham Christensen did not pick up an artist’s brush until his early 60’s but quickly showed a natural talent with oils and a great affinity with the rural landscape.

He lives on a farm near Palmerston North in the Manawatu region and works from a large, light-filled studio – a converted room at the back of the barn.

Graham exhibits regularly in the Manawatu/Rangitikei region and also has exhibited extensively in Queensland with his works being collected in Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Graham’s paintings depict his life-long love of farming and the rugged landscape that New Zealand offers. His latest works are a reminiscence of rural life and moments in time that make up the rich tapestry of our farming communities and their significant place in our country’s history.

Pond plants for fish pond

Pauline from Highbury - Westbrook

Does anyone have excess pond plants. I need a couple to put into pots in my fish pond. The plants I have in there are quite bare after hungry fish have devoured it with the heat. Won't be till the weekend I can collect.

Grooves up or down? Decking debate settled

Kylie Klein Nixon Reporter from Homed

Gathering together during the holidays can lead us to notice changes in our loved ones and their needs, especially if there has been some time between visits.

Starting a conversation about care isn’t always easy but like many things, sometimes you just need to take the first step.

To help nurture those conversations, we invite you to our Care Centre Open Days at your local Ryman village. A tour will give you first-hand experience of our village communities and the exceptional care we provide. Care options include the extra support of a serviced apartment, resthome, hospital and specialist dementia care.
