Give yourself a break from laundry duty tomorrow night! π§
π We'll be cleaning one of the main pipes that transports water from Turitea into the city tomorrow night (Tuesday 20 August).
π We've postponed this a couple of times due to river conditions not being right, but we're now good to go after the rain over the weekend.
We're encouraging everyone to have a night off washing your clothes after 9pm, while our team complete the cleaning. Need to do laundry? Don't stress, the water's expected to be back to normal by 9 am Wednesday (21 August). βΊοΈ
π On Wednesday, morning you might notice some discoloured water when we reconnect the water supply. If this happens, run your taps for a few minutes or until the water runs clear.
π If your water doesn't run clear after a few minutes, please ring our Call Centre on 06 356 8199 and let them know so we can help.
πFor more info about the work being done, visit:
www.pncc.govt.nz......
π° If you live in Kelvin Grove, Ashhurst, Longburn or Bunnythorpe, this won't affect you, as your area has a separate water supply.
β¨ No cleaning agent is used during the process β instead, a giant sponge (like in the picture below) is inserted into the pipe at the treatment plant and water pressure pushes it through the pipe until it gets to the river. We do this every year. β¨

Poll: Should we be giving the green light to new mining projects? π°π²
The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if itβs approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
We want to know: Should mining projects like this move ahead?

A riddle to start the festive season π²ππ
I'm a fruit. If you take away my first letter, I'm a crime. If you take away my first two letters, I'm an animal. If you take away my first and last letter, I'm a form of music. What am I?
