This Christmas, while many are enjoying some time away, we're looking for special people who are staying home and can open their homes to a foster animal or two. Spread some holiday cheer and get some cuddles in return!

Before the end of December, SPCA is expecting to take over 3000 vulnerable cats and kittens into care. Many of these will need time in a foster home to heal, learn and grow.

Please, if you are staying home during the holidays sign up to become a foster parent. Your support is invaluable!

We cover all expenses and provide training. All you need to give is your love and time. Make a Difference this Season!

Open your heart and home to a kitten. If you're not quite ready yet, please get in touch. Every bit helps spread warmth and love this holiday season. Sign up today!

Hi neighbours,

Have you got the Christmas tree up yet? We had the pleasure of visiting Granny's Christmas Grotto in Marton when it opened for the festive season.

Jenny Greener has amassed decorations and figurines for more than 30 years, and is displaying it for one last Christmas before it is broken up and auctioned off.

It's safe to say Jenny knows her way around a Christmas tree. There aren't many rules that inform her yuletide decor, she enjoys trees and lights of many colours - though isn't a fan of autumn colours in displays or blue tinsel.

What about you? Are there any dos or don'ts or entrenched preferences underlining your festive traditions?

Hello, Bob Selden here from the Greasy Chain Charitable Trust. Each Wellington Anniversary weekend, the Trust organises a Retro Ride and we have tentatively planned one for Sunday 21st January and I need some help please!
The people who previously organised our last one, are away and we have no-one on our board who has any contacts with retro cycles/cycling. Love to hear from anyone who would like to enter (once we have about 15 at least it will be worth running) and also from anyone who can lend a hand.
The business community in the CBD through their rep body Palmy BID are keen to have the event go ahead, which is great. We’re also fortunate that the Retro Ride would be on the Sunday following the Gravel & Tar on Saturday 20th and preceding the National Criterium Championships held at Massey on Monday 22nd – so there should be quite a few people around who have an interest in cycling.

Please let me know your interest.

Wed 6th Dec - Community 'orchard' at Waterloo Park, Hokowhitu - final PNCC decision

An alternative option, to retain the existing reserve and develop it as a new accessway to the river, and potential community orchard, was instead passed by a majority of Councillors at the same meeting.

www.stuff.co.nz...

However the battle is not yet won!

These voting decisions have to be adopted, or otherwise, by full Council, and this is due to happen at their meeting next Wednesday, 6th December.
Councillors will vote again, and there will be some present at this meeting that were not involved in the previous meeting, and may not agree with the previous majority votes.
Another who voted to decline the reserve exchange last month is apparently overseas and not going to be there to vote on Wednesday...
Some Councillors believe that last month’s decisions will get upheld with few problems, but that was before the recent press about all the cuts that PNCC will have to make in the upcoming 10-year plan to keep rates rises 'reasonable'.
However another has suggested getting “Retain the Reserve” supporters back into the chamber on 6th along with banners and cardboard cut-outs etc. (see picture in newspaper article above), as "without the noise and pressure some (Councillors) will fold".

Please, if you possibly can, come to the Council meeting in the PNCC Council Chamber on Wednesday 6th December to watch the proceedings for this item, and show your support to "Retain the Reserve". My best guess is 3 pm...

(Unfortunately I can't give a really good estimate of what time this item will come up. It is Item 23 out of 26 public items, and Items 24 to 26 seem fairly short. But, there is then a further part of the meeting that is public-excluded, another 5 items.
You can keep track of the meeting progress on the day by watching the live video link on the PNCC website).
