Following the Mayor’s visit to affected areas to assess the damage on Friday with members of the local board and council engineers, it has been decided that work will begin this coming Monday, 22 January, to replenish the sand on Orewa beach, (as provided for under the conditions of council’s existing resource consent).
During this time, access to parts of the beach may be restricted. Check out the link below for more information.
There will be limited access to Orewa Beach for the rest of the month until the work on replenishing sand is complete.
The council say that by replenishing the sand it performs the dual function of providing a storm buffer which acts to protect the beach from further erosion.

Fencing will start to go up today, in preparation for work commencing on January 22.
