Have your say on Marine Protection
Fisheries NZ and DOC are inviting public feedback on proposals to establish a network of marine protected areas along the south-east coast of the South Island.
Feedback is sought on the following proposed marine protection measures:
● 6 marine reserves (Type 1 marine protected areas [MPAs]) where no fishing or disturbance is allowed
● 5 Type 2 MPAs where some fishing methods are permitted
● 1 kelp protection area where the commercial harvest of giant kelp from this area would be prohibited.
Consultation closes on 3 August 2020.
