The Importance of Collagen
Collagen is an important protein responsible for skin elasticity, joint and bone health, and gut lining repair. There are many different types of collagen. Some have more elasticity than others, so knowing the difference is important when wishing to meet specific health requirements.
* Type 1 and Type 3: are present in skin and bones, and make up part of the gut lining.
* Type 2: makes up cartilage, fascia, ligaments and tendons.
* Type 5: is found in the placenta.
* Type 10: largely contributes to cartilage and disc tissue.
Dietary sources of Collagen:
* Poultry Bone Broth uses bone and cartilage so is very high in Type 1.
* Bovine Collagen/Bone Broth contains Type 1 and Type 3 and is good for skin and bones.
* Eggshell Membrane contains Types 5 and 10.
* Marine Collagen is primarily Type 1 but does contain some Type 3.
Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
