A team of earth scientists from the University of Waikato has confirmed the existence of a volcanic cone at Karaka.

Ministry of Transport data for 2016, the most recent available on its website, makes for sobering reading β 328 deaths from 286 fatal road crashes, or 0.9 deaths for every 10,000 vehicles.
