The Office Cafe, Maungatapere. They not only serve great food, they coordinate local events like markets, and try to help promote the whole village. They served takeaway dinners during Covid to make our lives better. When I had to go gluten-free I had to stop eating so many things, and one day when I was in there the owner said she'd tried four different recipes to make the yummy pies I used to love, but none of them worked. I was so overwhelmed by her kindness trying to do that for me.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
