Poll: Would you want an unconventional funeral?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Funerals can cost as much as $22,000 and the planning can be stressful especially at a time when loved ones are grieving. Some New Zealanders are re-imagining funerals by making their own coffin or having a relaxed ceremony at home. Would you want a less traditional funeral? Share your thoughts below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.

Free Speech Union

Diane from Epuni

Hi Neighbours, I am wondering whether people know about the Free Speech Union. It began in 2018 when they challenged the Mayor of Auckland who banned people whose views he disliked. This is still happening in some situations, lobby groups work to prevent alternative views from being heard by getting events cancelled. The Free Speech Union stand up for the right of people to attend such events to hear what the speaker has to say. Those lobby groups would be horrified if their event was cancelled because others didn’t share their opinions. Every speaker deserves to be heard by those who want to listen.

The Free Speech Union promote Free Speech for all and the right for people to hold their own views - even if they are not the popular views. They do not promote any particular views or support and particular group but they do support people who have been 'punished' for disagreeing with some ideology.
Discussing a difference of opinion/views in a respectful way is healthy - it's not hate speech. We must all accept that not everyone will agree with us but we are all entitled to hold and share our own opinions.
