Hutt Estuary - Royal spoonbills, aka kōtuku ngutupapa
The Hutt Estuary at the river mouth has an often surprising variety of birds. Some of my favourites include the royal spoonbill, aka kōtuku ngutupapa - so efficient with their own built-in cutlery. There are between six and twelve that seem to live around here, they often move up the river to hang out on the gravel islands by the Ava Railbridge as well.
