Weather update Thursday 19 January, 8:30am
After the gale force winds last night, we are pleased to report no major issues on the roading network across Lower Hutt. There's a few trees down in places but currently no road closures, please ensure you drive to the conditions out there. We have contractors out this morning clearing sumps and debris city-wide. If you spot damage across Lower Hutt please call Council's Contact Centre on 04 570 6666 or log the job online through the Report a Problem part of our site, huttcity.govt.nz/rap.
If you are heading north on SH2 today please note that the Rimutaka Hill Road is currently closed due to high winds
As at 8am today, our pool staff have advised that due to the strong winds in the Hutt Valley, all outdoor summer pools (McKenzie Baths, Eastbourne and Wainuiomata) will be closed until midday. They'll evaluate the conditions closer to midday and advise whether the pools will be opening for the day. Call Council’s Contact Centre on 04 570 6666 for more info or check out facebook.com/huttcitycouncil.
Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
