Some of you may have seen me online and around the Wellington region's rivers and lakes! I've been visiting waterways across the region, talking to people about freshwater pests and how they can avoid spreading them. Everyone (from boaties to fishermen and swimmers, as well as campers and hikers) needs to be aware of freshwater pests, because they are easily spread and cause many problems.
I'm going to be popping by a bunch of upcoming Greater Wellington Get Outdoors events this Summer, with my arms filled with the Check Clean Dry packs in between visiting the waterways, so if you see me come say hi and feel free to ask me any questions!

- A local author reading a native fish story reading for children
- Learn more about stream wildlife on a short guided walk
- A short guided native tree and wetland walk
- Nature photography workshop
There’ll be a lunchtime BBQ but you could also bring a picnic to enjoy sheltered amongst the trees.

Summer’s more fun when you can swim! SwimWell teaches your kids the skills they need to stay safe in the water. We offer swimming lessons for children aged 5 months to 14 years at a pool near you. Give them confidence in the water – and in life.
Point Howard Wharf is now closed to allow repair work to be completed.
The wharf is regularly inspected, and the most recent check identified concerns with two piles.
We're expecting the work to be finished in about three weeks' time.
It's the summer of all summers but will there be a cicada chorus to soundtrack it? The arrival of the chorus cicada, New Zealand's most common and loudest cicada, is anything but a given and will not be overtly influenced by our record-breaking weather. How many have you heard?
