Income Tax Notifications

Harry from Waiwhetu

How would you like to be pensioners in their 80's receiving letters out of the blue, telling you your income tax return was overdue.
How also would you like to be an 83 old woman who has been in and out of hospital twice this year and is confined to a wheel chair been told you are required to do this within 30days and can do so by going to ird.govt./myIR a lady who turning on the telly. is hard enough but would not have a clue regarding computers and the internet.

Surprise, surprise, another letter with the post date the same as the previous one, stating they have charge a late filing penalty of $50.
incidentally we both got similar letter with similar requirements and demands and also all letter had the same issuing date.
Try to contact ird by phone is an near impossibility.
We had previously been told a couple of years previous that as we were on the basic pension there was no need to fill in such forms, incidentally also, we had never received any form anyway.
The outcome, after hours of time and effort investigating, is that as we had a part pension from the UK which is topped up by WINZ although WINZ taxes the NZ part of my top up they do not tax the UK portion so
ALL YOU BRITS OUT THERE you could be liable if you do not fill forms in and declare your part UK pension.
We are finally clear, till next tax year, after filing and declaring the small amount I get from the oveseas part-pension, I also have never received any Kiwi Saver type allowance for my part pension, so watch out guys!
you may be getting your KIWI SAVINGS as a supplement to you pension at present, we don't we get the lot deducted from our pension as they said you cannot get two pension payments so bit of an anomaly creeping in here.
Watch out guys! once they get everyone into Kiwi Saver, mark my words, you will all be getting one pension and your Kiwi saving will be deducted like our is, from your basic pension.
