Difference between a dunnock and a female sparrow
A few people have asked how you can tell the difference between a dunnock and a female sparrow, so I've taken a couple of close-ups of a female sparrow so you can compare the two side-by-side (the last one is a dunnock). See how the female sparrow is much stockier in the body, the beak is triangular and pale, and the plumage is more patterned including a white bar of the underside of the wings. The dunnock is much finer featured, slim, steel grey front with brown back, brick red/brownish eyes with slim dark beak.
