An Invercargill city councillor suggests the Government’s Three Waters reform advertising should include a former telethon jingle given councils are being asked to hand over their assets.
Councils have until Friday to provide feedback on the Government’s plans to merge 67 different water organisations, currently run by councils, into just four.
Councils will hand over their water assets to those new entities who will take care of the responsibility for wastewater, drinking water, and stormwater across the country.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.

Te Araroa Trust is aiming to raise $30,000 to kickstart a raised timber boardwalk in the Longwoods Forest, making this challenging section a little more enjoyable for future walkers.
