How do you feel about mayors/councillors being elected unopposed?
Hi neighbours,
Current Waipā District Mayor Jim Mylcreest has been elected unopposed.
When the deadline for nominations passed at midday on Friday his was only one nomination for Mayor.
Clare St Pierre and Bruce Thomas were also re-elected unopposed as Pirongia Ward councillors, Elwyn Andree-Wiltens was re-elected unopposed as Maungatautari Ward councillor and Susan O’Regan was re-elected unopposed as Kakepuku Ward councillor.
So how do you feel about a mayor/councillors being elected unopposed?
Would you prefer to have a choice on who to vote for?
And what do you think this says about people's opinions on local democracy?

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
