Have you received an email from the IRD? It could be a scam

Inland Revenue is warning of several scams circulating this tax season. Inland Revenue revealed earlier this month that there is about $183 million of tax refunds sitting unclaimed – enough to fly first class from Auckland to London and back more than 11,000 times.

Since then the IRD has been alerted to a scam email that asks users to enter their personal details to claim their tax refund. The email has the subject line, "IR3 individual income tax return 2016".

It's important to remember the IRD will not:
- Advise you that you are due a tax refund through email
- Send an email with a link to a webpage which asks you submit personal details
- Ask for credit card details or bank account numbers over the phone in order to process a monetary payment
- Ask you to pay a tax debt using gift cards or vouchers
- Sent you an email that does not include or ask for your IRD number

If you receive a suspicious email, SMS scam message or a fraudulent call please email phishing@ird.govt.nz or call them on 0800 227 774 (make sure you have your IRD number).

Log on to the Inland Revenue's website, register for myIR and use its calculator to work out whether you are owed money or have tax to pay.

Our libraries will be closed for the next two days for a major systems upgrade.

Kotui is our new libraries management system and its roll-out is a significant project for us. The closure is the best way for us to undertake a major transferral of data. The work can’t be undertaken while the libraries are open for business.

Testing of the system will also be included in the closure to ensure it’s performing properly when we reopen the doors for customers on 15 June.

We appreciate the closure may inconvenience customers, but the upgrade is essential and the closure represents a tiny percentage of the annual opening hours for the libraries.

The introduction of Kotui won’t change what customers pay for loan items, but the new system will modernise staff and customer access to information on the library’s catalogue. When you look online for items from our collection, our customers will see more information available and have a better user experience.

A mobile phone app for customers will also be rolled out as part of the project.

Customers needing to return items that are due on the two closure dates in June can do so by using the after-hours boxes at the suburban libraries. See hamiltonlibraries.co.nz for more details

Working with my own players on their basic skills, they improved their game dramatically within a couple of training sessions. I realise that local school coaches aren't emphasising on this area much, so, if there is enough interest, I could conduct training sessions for players between 10-15 to work on their basic skills such as stopping, trapping, kicking, passing, heading and taking throw-ins. From what I've seen, it is also possible to work on simple 'tricks' such as stepovers and body feints to give some dimension to their repertoire of moves. I'd need to have a participant size of 5-7 players to conduct a one-hour training session, with the cost being $10 per participant, per session. Drop me a message or text/call 0277780883 if you think this might be something useful for your child.
