There's quite a variety of events coming up in the King Country town
Mobsters, policemen, farmers and naked festival-goers are all heading to Taumarunui this weekend and nonplussed locals are seeing dollar signs rather than trouble.
New Zealand’s first-of-its-kind sex-positive festival, Naked in the Trees, will coincide with a King Country Mongrel Mob reunion event in Taumuranui, running from February 13 to 17. Eight hundred tickets had been sold to the Naked in the Trees event.
Roadworks on SH1 between Hampton Downs and Rangiriri
From 7 to 18 December, there will be night-time closures on SH1 between Hampton Downs and Rangiriri (Sundays to Thursdays, 9pm to 5am) to carry out wire rope barrier maintenance. Please expect delays when travelling through this area.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
