Two Issues: Weight of Kids and Garden Birds clue to Environment
Reading the Herald yesterday two important issues were shown.
The first was on 'Weighty Issue for Our Kids' where from a previous study kids up to 14 of 2010 were compared with kids the same ages in 2017 and found the 2017 kids are 1.8kg heavier meaning lots more obesity. If you worry about your child and their future find this article and read it as Obesity is a modern disease going to cause massive problems of destroyed joints and bodily dis-function needing more surgery than ever before.
The second article was 'Garden Birds' Give Clues to Our Environment'. This is a survey available to take part in again where people take the time to monitor the birds they see in their own back yard. This information will show the continuing changing nature of birds in our society giving a better idea of how our environment affects them and also us. Who would think the blackbird, thrush and wax-eye would all be disappearing in our generation but this looks likely so needs our help.

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
