Some of the 6 types of UK crossings hold the traffic up with a brief red light/arrow which quickly turns to flashing amber so drivers at their discretion can move as soon as they think it's safe ie when there are no pedestrians crossing. I think it's the Pelican crossing I like. The following link describes the 6 types. You may be amused by the Toucan (like the one at Ellicott/Avalon Dv) but we probably don't need many Pegasus crossings in Hamilton.

Four Hamilton "choke points" are in the sights of a city councillor who says the traffic flow needs to be fixed.
And council experts agree that growth is putting more pressure on Hamilton roads than ever before.
Are there any intersections or roundabouts that really grind your gears? Also, are there any other traffic/driving/etiquette related gripes that you'd like to share?
