The petrol station selling everything but petrol is now selling nothing at all and an up-start rival has swooped in to pick up the prime location on Te Rapa Straight.

But itโ€™s not the only new acquisition for Waitomo Group, with CEO Simon Parham saying theyโ€™d also picked up locations in Greenwood St and up north in Kaikohe as it continues its expansion across the country.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if itโ€™s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
