MPI (Ministry of Primary Industries) have advised that next week every property within a 500 metre radius will be searched. This is the first report in Hamilton city.
Our rare swamp mairie in Hammond Park are susceptible to the deadly myrtle rust. Myrtle rust is a serious fungal disease that affects plants in the myrtle family. Plants in this family include pōhutukawa, mānuka and rātā as well as common garden plants such as ramarama and lilly pilly.
If you think you've seen myrtle rust
Don't touch!
Don't collect samples as this might spread the disease.
If you can, take a photo of the rust and the plant it's on.
Phone MPI's exotic pest and disease hotline 0800 80 99 66.
If you accidentally come in contact with the affected plant or the rust, bag your clothing and wash clothes, bags and shoes/boots when you get home.
More info and photos are here www.doc.govt.nz...
Please discuss or forward this email to your neighbours.
