Rising river level forces path closures
6 September 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hamilton City Council staff have closed two low-lying river paths due to the rising water level in the Waikato River.
Paths at Ann St and Fairfield Esplanade are both closed, and path users are urged to avoid these areas for their own safety.
Detours are via adjacent streets – Awatere Ave/Beerescourt Rd for Ann St, and River Rd for Fairfield Esplanade.
The river level and paths will be monitored, and the paths will be reopened once the water level has dropped.
Path users are asked to be cautious and sensible on all paths in coming days, with heavy rain forecast and some paths and boardwalks likely to be slippery.
