Cat killed by roaming dog

Caitlin from Fairfield

Hi everyone

My beautiful cat Woody was mauled and killed by a roaming dog who entered our property at about 12am on Monday morning.

He was a beautiful, gentle, loving cat that we rescued from the Huntly Vets 9 years ago, along with his relative Guthrie. The dog was chocolate brown and possibly a boxer x. I saw the dog going down the driveway next door, belonging to a group of housing New Zealand properties.

My mother and I approached one of the houses, but they said their dogs didn't fit this description. They also didn't think anyone else around there owned a dog like this either. My mother contacted animal control today. My error was in leaving the gate open and not bringing him inside. I will always hold myself responsible for this.

We live in Peachgrove Road in Fairfield. Please keep an eye out for any roaming dogs and call animal control if you see them. Shut your gates and bring your animals inside. I don't want to happen to anyone else's precious pets.
