Non-urgent patients asked to keep emergency department free

Non-urgent patients are asked not to show up at Hamilton's emergency department unless they have a health emergency.

Waikato Hospital is so full that some non-urgent surgery is being postponed. People who are unwell but don't need to go to ED can visit their GP, local urgent care centre, or call Healthline 0800 611 116.

Those who need immediate or urgent help should dial 111, or go straight to the Waikato Hospital Emergency Department.

BE VERY CAREFUL OF "YOU SHOP" / NZ POST

I bought some items from Amazon that were shipped free to my husband's "You Shop" / NZ Post account at their Oregon warehouse. Well before GST was to be applied to items purchased overseas - effective 1 December 2019 - I went to pay for the delivery of the purchased items from Oregon to New Zealand, and noted that I was now required to upload a copy of the relevant invoice. I did this for each of the four parcels. I was shocked to find that:

Parcel 1: The "delivery total for parcel" displayed at the "You Shop" website was NZ $11.00. Immediately after I had scanned and then uploaded the relevant invoice, this price shot up to $16.00. An extra $5.00 had been added for no reason provided.

Parcel 2: Ditto above.

Parcel 3: The "delivery total for parcel" was $10.88 but shot up to $17.00. An extra $6.12 had been added for no reason provided.

Parcel 4: The "delivery total for parcel" was $13.38 but shot up to $19.50. An extra $6.12 had been added for no reason provided.

After complaining to "You Shop" / NZ Post I got the worst case of 'run around' with the left hand not knowing what the right was doing, too many fingers in the pie, and the hot potato being passed from person to person ... with no one able to tell me what had gone wrong and when they were going to sort this mess out. Outrageously I was told GST had been added but when I calculated the values of the parcels (after converting the US dollars to NZ dollars, and multiplying that amount by 15%) the differences in the increased "delivery total for parcel" in each instance did not amount to 15% ... but were much more than this. Importantly, and despite asking for a supervisor to look at this problem and sort it out once and for all, no one I dealt with - by e-mail and phone - could see the bush for the trees in terms of NO GST being payable on the four parcels because a) it was not yet 1 December 2019 when I first complained, and b) rules I had read published at the IRD's website - linked from the "You Shop" / NZ Post website - made it clear that the individual parcels were all the GST applicable value. My advices in the former regard also fell on the deaf ears.

With the to-ing and fro-ing, 1 December 2019 came and went. Eventually I got some sort of answer insofar as I was told that there is a 'bug' in their system and I must pay the prices demanded by "You Shop" at their website (even though they were wrong), I am responsible for the GST (even though the 1 December 2019 deadline had come and gone because of their errors in calculating the correct "delivery total for parcel" in respect of each, and also due to them 'dragging their heels' in sorting out this mess. Ludicrously I was told they cannot fix the problem and I must pay the - wrong - prices and then submit a claim to "You Shop" / NZ Post who will honour the originally quoted "delivery total for each parcel".

I then fell ill and after starting to feel a bit better today, I returned to the "You Shop" / NZ Post website with the intention of paying the wrong "delivery total for parcel" in respect of each. But I was plunged into a state of literal shock when I saw that the original and the revised (after the respective invoices had been uploaded) "delivery total for parcel" in each instance had ONCE AGAIN INCREASED ... and that the total now payable for all 4 parcels had more than double in price - again without any reason being provided - and with 15% GST having been added to each individual parcel's "delivery total."

So the original - total for delivery of all four parcels (before consolidating them into one parcel which attracts a discount), was $46.26. That increased to $68.50, and increased again to $78.79 ... both times without a reason being provided. Then GST was added, and a small discount given for consolidating all four parcels. I eventually paid $105.11 for something that I ought to have paid $46.26 for. Seems this government is wanting to put consumers off shopping from overseas companies by playing the sort of games I have experienced with four parcels whose contents are almost the same value as what I have paid for shipping the items to New Zealand.

The weather's looking up this week, the perfect time to take a trip to Raglan and cool off. But things could get heated on the drive out as locals get increasingly agitated by motorists who are unfamiliar with the windy route.
