Riverlea Theatre is delighted to be presenting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s much-loved Oklahoma! from the 5th – 19th August. Director, Jane Barnett, says “We are so excited for Hamilton to see this production, featuring such talented performers. And we are thrilled to introduce Oklahoma! to a new generation of theatre-goers.”
Oklahoma hasn’t been staged for several years here. It was the first hit of Rodgers and Hammerstein, who went on to write other well-known musicals like ‘The King and I,’ ‘South Pacific’ and ‘Showboat’. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
