Weather warnings: Take care, Gisborne.
MetService has issued a Heavy Rain warning from 7am - 7pm on Friday, 19 May for the area of Gisborne north of Tolaga Bay.
A Strong Wind watch is also in place for this period for Gisborne from Tolaga Bay northwards
Here's what you need to know:
- 50 to 90 mm of rain is expected about the ranges and a lesser amount near the coast.
- Thunderstorms and localised downpours possible. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h, or possibly more.
- Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly.
- Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
- Northeast winds may approach severe gale in exposed places.
