Died approaching his 87th birthday, in the company of family on December 30, 2022. Loved son of Oliver James (Paddy) O’Brien, former NZ Chief Inspector of Air Accidents and Margaret (Peggy) O’Brien, accomplished concert pianist, and brother to Bridget Thomas and Jane O’Brien. Very dear husband of 60 years to Elizabeth O’Brien. Loving father and father-in-law to John O’Brien, Georgia O’Brien and Jonny Holden, Daniel O’Brien and Maty Nikkhou-O’Brien and Timothy O’Brien, and treasured granddad to Josephine Holden, Stephanie Holden, James O’Brien and Leo O’Brien. Dedicated to New Zealand, Terence served his country with distinction for over 40 years as a diplomat and as founding director of the Centre for Strategic Studies.
