Poachers endangering sea life at Goat Island Marine Reserve

Kia ora neighbours, marine reserves across Tāmaki Makaurau have been plundered by people illegal fishing crews as summer begins.

There are five marine reserves across the city – Tāwharanui, Long Bay-Okura, Te Matuku, Motu Manawa-Pollen Island and Cape Rodney-Okakari Point (Goat Island).

Goat Island in particular is a popular summer spot for snorkelling with more than 100 species of fish recorded at the reserve, which covers 518 hectares.
