OVER THE TOP COUNCIL SPENDING !

John from Woolston

If you want to view an example of this go down Richardson Tce. and where the foot bridge goes across the river by MacKenzie Ave. have a look at what has been done. I understand it is because of a cycle way, although I haven't seen that advertised. The time this project has taken and the manner that the construction has been engineered has to be seen to be believed. The extravagance , the hotch potch of expensive materials - the complexity - for what ? If it is for a cycle way, I don't know where the cyclists will be coming from or going to. That part of the city is very quiet with few cyclist or cars so this extravagance is completely unnecessary. Richardson Tce. has experienced several major flood events over the last year or so and the whole area will require to be be re-engineered to lessen that and the Tce. itself is a real mess since the quakes, so my bet is all this work will be dug up over the next short time frame so the whole area can be made safe and functional.

The contractors doing this work are shaking their heads in disbelief as to what is going on around our city - another mad example is Worcester Street. Of course they are loving this work as they are filling their coffers while the council are draining ours !

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
