Sale of hallucinogenic Christchurch cactus sparks international bidding war
A 7-metre tall drug-producing cactus is pricking interest from worldwide bidders hoping to get their hands on a piece of the towering Christchurch plant.
Owner Jonny Small is hacking off sections of the 30-year-old cactus and shipping them to green-fingered customers as far away as Idaho, Arizona, Texas and Canada.
It was planted in Addington as a seedling more than three decades ago, but its roots had become out-of-control and the land was due to be cleared for development so it "needed to go", Small said.
