Assault on Joy Street

Police are making enquiries following an assault on Joy Street this afternoon.

At around 3:25pm, Police received a report of the assault, where one person received serious injuries. They have been transported to hospital.
The alleged offenders fled the scene and Police are making enquiries, including utilising a commercial helicopter.

Canterbury Metro Area Commander Superintendent Lane Todd says Police are following positive lines of enquiry in relation to the assault.
"In the course of our enquiries, we have arrested six youths for unrelated matters, and they have been charged with unlawfully taking motor vehicles and burglary"
They are due to appear in Youth Court at a later date.
"This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated, anyone who chooses to engage in this behaviour can expect to be held to account."
