Avonside resident and Greening the Red Zone founder Ashley Campbell was horrified when she saw what was once a thick patch of ribbonwood seedlings become a bare patch of dead shrivelled up stalks after being sprayed by contractors.
But Land Information NZ, which manages the land, says vegetation across the red zone has been independently assessed and plants of significant ecological value already identified and retained.
The specially designed habitat will hopefully encourage more lizards to settle along the lower Heathcote River in Woolston.

When recycling your bottles and containers, remember dispose the lids and bottle tops in the red bin. Otherwise our recycling items may get contaminated.
